J'ai postulé en ligne. J'ai passé un entretien chez Podium en mars 2021
Entretien
I wanted to write a review for a design position since I wasn’t able to find any when for Podium when I was interviewing, so I’m hoping this helps some people out!
The interview process is pretty long, but nothing out of the ordinary for a design position. I had 5 rounds:
1. 30 min phone screen with recruiter
2. 1hr zoom interview with designer
3. 3 hr long zoom interview (3 different interviews) consisting of portfolio presentation, job-fit, and design challenge
4. 3 hr long interview (2 different interviews) consisting of interview with designer and another with senior designer walking through past experience
5. Last 30 min long interview with VP of design
Overall, everyone I met was very friendly and seems genuinely interested in learning about me and my experience.
However, I do unfortunately feel like I was pretty misled throughout the process. I made it to the last round, and had to reach out to the recruiter myself because I didn’t hear back when I said I should have expected to. I didn’t get an offer and the feedback I received was “we feel like we’ll be setting you up for failure by giving you the job because the team doesn’t have the resources right now to train an entry level designer (I’ll be graduating in May 2021). Given my graduation date is listed clearly on my resume and LinkedIn, and I made it very clear I was going to be a new grad in my first two interviews, I feel like this is something the team should have really thought through before I was moved forward and spent tens of hours preparing for the interviews, on top of actually taking time from school and my internship to attend the 8+ hours of interviews.
I’m not upset about the rejection, I completely understand that companies can’t choose every candidate. But ultimately, I was pretty disappointed that I felt really misled and I could have been focusing my time and efforts on other positions/companies that are ready and willing to train a new grad. I strongly encourage employers to also do the research on candidates before you put them through countless hours of prep and interviews.
So if I learned anything during this process, my number one piece of advice if you’re a new grad would be to ask during your FIRST interview if the team has the resources and time to train you! It sucks to feel like you wasted your time at the end when it could’ve been avoided.
Questions d'entretien [1]
Question 1
Why podium, explain your design process, lots of behavioral questions as well
Interview process was fair. First I talked to the recruiter, then a senior designer, then two more designers, then the hiring manager. I had to walk through my case study.
