Unpleasant interview experience.
I applied to be a support agent. Halfway through the interview, my interviewer asks if I would be in interested in being a consultant instead. I declined since I don’t like any jobs involving sales. It felt a bit off that she tried to make me change my mind on the position I was originally interested in.
She later asks me if I’d be open to a graveyard shift, which was never mentioned in the job posting. When I said I could not, she accepted that answer but still tried a bit too hard to convince me afterwards. “Well we schedule your hours based on what our scheduling algorithms say! And our algorithm is not very likely to schedule you for graveyard shift in the first place” “We have several engineers that LOVE working graveyard shift!”
When she asked me my salary range, and I gave her the average market rate, she suddenly got much more stiff and formal with me. At the end of the interview she said quite condescendingly, “We’ll give you an update on your application soon. If you do get rejected, you can still apply for our consultant position though!” She made it obvious she was going to reject me based on my salary requirements, but that she didn’t feel the need to be honest and upfront about it.
In short? My interviewer tried to change my mind on the job I applied for. My interviewer and the company failed to mention the job could be working graveyard shifts in the job posting, and only felt the need to bring it up in the interview. My interviewer was noticeably more frosty and condescending when our salary expectations didn’t match.
Apply elsewhere.
