I appreciated not waiting several days/weeks for the interview to take place. Interviewers were kind and courteous and described the desire to have staff feel like a family environment. While quaint, I prefer professional boundaries and have experienced employers who want a family environment typically want you to keep quiet about complaints and have 'unconditional love and loyalty' to them no matter what. So that, for me, was a yellow flag. The part time schedule was subject to fluctuation and described as up to 25 hours per week. There were no health benefits. The application required a statement of expected wage but this was not taken into account when the second interview was schedule in another state. I was low balled when offered the position pending approval of the usual extensive background check. I felt it was too much to ask for someone to work on a part time schedule that would be a moving target not allowing for supplemental part time employment and with no health benefits but still tried to negotiate a measly 50 cents more. The answer was no. I was also told in the first interview that they wanted an employee that lived close, as I did, because volunteering would be more likely. Really??
