NOTE: Before you start reading, please note that I went into this interview with a *very* negative attitude. This could be the *sole* reason that the whole experience seemed irritating. So, please take what I say with a grain of salt. If you can go in with a positive attitude, I am sure that you will do much better than I did. 1. Initial Contact by Recruiter Received an email from a very persistent recruiter to interview with Palantir. Based on what I had read about the company, I did not want to apply. However, the recruiter kept following up and "encouraging" me to apply. Since I was looking for employment, I figured it would be a good idea to use this interview as practice. 2. Initial Contact by In-house Attorney About a month later, I received an email from an inhouse attorney wanting to set up an interview. The attorney sent me links to Palantir's Analysis Blog, White Videos, and OpTradeStop (an online video game). For whatever reason, this seemed somewhat annoying to me. With my current job, it's not easy for me to spend 6 to 8 hours preparing for a job, especially one I don't care that deeply about. I wanted to cancel the interview but did not because I felt that would be unwise. 3. The interview The conversation with the attorney was nothing more than an extremely generic screen interview. It was relatively fast-paced. The attorney seemed like they had to leave for something else (perhaps another interview?) so it felt like I was being "processed" through their system. Nothing about the interview stood out. The questions were mostly superficial. The questions were as follows: * Why are you interested in Palantir? * Why does the jump to Palantir make sense at this point of your career? * Why are you a good fit for Palantir? * Why do you want to go in-house? * Why did you decide to go to law school? * How do you feel about the legal profession? * Where do you see yourself in 15 years? * What are you interests outside of the law? Like I said, pretty generic. At the end of the interview, I wanted to tell the attorney that I did not want the job but, again, I felt that it would be unwise. 4. The Rejection A few weeks later, I heard back from the interview saying that Palantir had decided to pass. 5. My Reaction to the Rejection Under any other circumstances (e.g., when another law firm passed on me) I would have felt disappointed. With Palantir, I recall feeling relieved.
