I had a phone screen with their U.K. representative that was supposed to go for 30 minutes but lasted just south of an hour. It was pretty technical when I was told it would be primarily behavioral. I answered most questions very well except for automotive standard related questions (CAN bus electronics), which were only about 2 of ~20 questions. I answered honestly letting the interviewer know I wasn't fully aware of this communication protocol. The end of the interview lead to the interviewer asking me when I was available and provided times within the following week and I asked if I could get back to him via email to ensure my schedule was indeed free. He kept mentioning that I'll be interviewing in the next stage, and gave me advice/feedback how I'd need to approach the next stage. I replied to him with an email with my availability and didn't hear back for weeks. I followed up about the next stage to see if they might have missed my email, and he responded with "apologies, we have been tight on time with hitting timelines and haven't had much time for anything else", and mentioned he would get back to me as soon as possible. I never heard back from him and only got an automated email from the company system mentioning they wouldn't consider me for the role. I felt like the interviewer had left me with the wrong impression and should have just mentioned I wouldn't fit the role from the start if that is what he had thought, and not offered to schedule the next interview. Additionally, I was charged $100 international call fee since he was from U.K., and I wasn't too upset about that but brought it up to him via email, and he never addressed it. Fairly unprofessional, and just wish the communication was clearer. Poor system.
