Terrific brief phone introduction with HR Manager followed by fantastic in-person interview with Controller. Both of them were very nice. Music plays in the waiting room while you’re waiting. The office is in an industrial area of town that’s a little bit out of the way but the nice thing is that a bus stop (the 15, which takes you back thru Downtown Portland) is right outside the front door. Came out of the interview feeling the best I had from an interview in six years. After that…nothing. I never heard back from anyone. I called to follow-up a week later and was treated kindly again by phone but not given any definitive answer as to the next step. Have a strong suspicion the job was later reposted online.
I highly disagree with companies that post ads with no urgency to hire anyone and conduct these interviews in stages with multiple people making the decision. The reason I say stages is because the second interview was supposed to be with two people from the accounting department. This was just for a clerk position, not managerial. The thought "there's no such thing as a perfect employee just as there's no such thing as a perfect company" definitely crosses my mind as I write this. Frustrating because not only were the interviewers pleasant but the job ad and their website were also friendly and straightforward. I have a real head for detail and think I would have enjoyed working there not only for that reason but also because the environment was supposedly very social.
