After 2 rounds of interviews (a video-recorded one and a video call), I was offered the job. However, the offer was rescinded due to the company going through restructuring, which postponed any new hires they had hoped to bring on.
First, I completed a Digital Interview (video recorded myself answering 5 interview questions). I was able to see the interview questions before starting the recording. These questions were mostly behavioural.
Soon after, I was invited to a video call interview with 2 members of the team that I was applying to work in. The questions mostly covered my technical experience with job duties I was expected to perform, but there were also behavioural questions. The whole process from sending in my resume to my job offer took 1 month.
After successfully completing both interviews, I received a verbal offer of employment. However, a few days later (while waiting to receive an email of HR documents and planning my relocation), I received another call stating that while I was "100% the successful candidate" and that the team got approval to upload the job posting, due to internal discussions, they were unsure when they would be able to forward the HR documents to me. I was reassured that there would be no hard feelings if I accepted another job, as the future was uncertain for this position that I had been so excited about.
A week later, I phoned the HR representative that I had been in contact with (twice) to no response so I left a voicemail inquiring about the state of the position. About a week after, I received an email that explained, due to restructuring, new hires are postponed so the company would not be able to move forward with this position.
I am so disappointed in the organization of this company. I understand that they spent work hours and money to conduct the hiring process, but I hope they improve their communication between staff and to job candidates. My hopes were raised and then I felt like I was hung out to dry when I was waiting for the final confirmation that the position was no longer available. I appreciate that the staff at Nutrien, including the HR representatives I spoke to and the team members that interviewed me all were pleasant, kind and professional. However, I hope in the future that this company that I so admired does better in their chain of communication and organization. I hope future hires do not experience something like I did. From the beginning, the job posting should not have been posted if restructuring was expected to occur. It resulted in disappointing and wasting the time of the Nutrien HR team, the Environmental Footprint team, and myself.
