      Entretien

      I spent 14 hours in total on the phone with MSC over the course of 4 weeks to interview for a Project Manager position. The first call was unannounced - the CEO cold called me after-hours on a weeknight after I submitted my resume on LinkedIn. That impromptu phone interview, which lasted 45 min, should have been my first red flag. The guy really likes to talk and does not stop talking. Every scheduled call to follow would go over the planned time, sometimes by an hour or more, and it was very difficult to get a word in edgewise. Allow extra time. While the role is remote, the hours are strict and all calls are video on. It is a very small company with only a handful of FT employees, all who have been there for several years. The CEO spent a lot of time in the interview process comparing his company to the last company where I worked, making conjectures about workload and pay practices. He wanted to be clear that I would be expected to work more than 40 hours a week but would not be paid overtime. I would be expected to check my email and receive texts or phone calls after hours and over the weekends. And I would have to agree to not have any side work or outside employment, including completely unrelated work like teaching yoga. This is because they pride themselves on responding to client inquiries quickly regardless of "working hours". Even after an offer was made, I was asked to sit through several teams calls with the CEO to make sure I was sure that I wanted to work for them. These conversations consisted of repetitive questions and references to things I had said in other meetings about my family or outside commitments. Several times I was asked if I could joke around, was friendly or personable, and if I would share things about my personal life to enrich relationships with clients. It grew increasingly uncomfortable. I ended up accepting the job but only working for 3 days before resigning. I had asked for flexibility to take a scheduled personal phone call during the workday, which the CEO agreed to but forgot about. This resulted in an hour-long on-the-spot interrogation with the CEO and another employee at the end of the day regarding my 30-minute absence that morning. I quit as a result of this grossly inappropriate call and the comments made during it, where I was belittled and made fun of and again questioned about my commitment to this all-encompassing job. This company may be good for a young employee or someone with few personal commitments. If you are able to go all-in for a top-down organization and like video calls for 6-8 hours a day, this may be the job for you.

      You mentioned in another interview that you also teach yoga, will you still be a yoga teacher if we hire you for this role? Will we have to worry about you having yoga commitments in the evenings or weekends that make you unavailable for us?

Our hiring process is intentionally thorough because we invest significant time and care to ensure candidates fully understand the expectations, culture, and parameters of the role before joining our team. Throughout the multi-step interview process, we made every effort to communicate transparently about the position’s scope, structure, and our high standard for client service. This included explaining that while we maintain standard business hours, there may occasionally be a need to professionally acknowledge client communications after hours — a point we emphasized was infrequent but important to our client-first culture. We also discussed that this position was a full-time role with a competitive compensation structure designed to reflect its professional requirements. As such, we expect our team members to be fully dedicated to their roles and not engaged in outside employment or side work — not because of control, but because our positions are structured and compensated in a way that should make such additional work unnecessary. Additionally, maintaining “video-on” standards during meetings supports professionalism, engagement, and strong relationship-building with our clients and internal teams. You accepted the position with an understanding of these expectations. However, it became evident early on that the role and culture at Multimedia Solutions were not the right fit, and we respect your decision to move on. We take pride in maintaining a professional, respectful, and transparent workplace and continue to wish you success in your future endeavors.
