The hiring process is a little shaky as Morrison University has had trouble keeping a Campus Director (CD) and a Director of Admissions (DOA) which is usual in this line of work. The process started with a small group interview which was more of an information gathering session for everyone involved. We were also advised of a psychological, logical, grammar and skills test that would be emailed and that must be completed.
A few weeks after the group interview came what was supposed to be a one on one interview with the DOA; after waiting in the waiting room for roughly 45 minutes (the front-end staff is quite pleasant to chat with while waiting) I was brought forms to fill in (formal application/background/anti-drug confirmation) and shortly after I was greeted by the DOA who said there was a change in plan and I would not be interviewing with him, but two of my potential co-workers. This interview lasted roughly an hour (not including the about an hour total wait before sitting in with the two staff members) and was fairly laid-back and "fun".
I was told I would hear from the DOA by that Friday (two days), the following Tuesday I called find out the status of my application and left a message. Thursday I called and left a second message, which was returned later in the afternoon by the DOA to set-up an interview with the District Manager (DM) via the phone and to inform me that he was sending my drug-test appointment and I needed to complete this in 48 hours. The following day I interviewed with the District Manager and completed the drug test directly after the interview which again was quite informal and relaxing as the DM was very easy to speak with. The DOA called after the drug test (same day) and said the phone interview had gone well and that he would like to set up a meeting with the CD and himself since he had passed on the previous interview with me; these interviews were scheduled for the following week.
When I went back to the school I was left to wait for roughly 20 minutes when the DOA came out and said that he would not be interviewing me at this time and I would be doing a one on one interview with all of his staff members before I met with the CD and then would interview with him. The staff member interviews were for the most part easy-going and more on the "chit-chat" side with a few exceptional questions having been asked, these appeared more of a get-to-know you type situation. The interview with the CD was a lot like the rest, he did ask some detailed questions referring to metrics and numbers, but for the most part he came across as nice guy who was still getting his footing as he had just started at the school as well. Finally the time came to interview with the DOA which, as he stated, was part of his hiring plan (interview with everyone else first). This interview was more of a "what I expect from you" conversation than an interview of me (assuming he had plenty of information about me from the previous 6 interviews). We talked terms regarding start date and wages to be earned and we left on the note that I had the job and would enjoy working with the team. He said he'd have a packet out to me regarding the rest of the information.
Shortly after I got home I received a phone call from another staff member who decided she wanted to do a phone interview with me as well (now totaling the interviews to 8). Now I just had to wait for the official start date since I was advised of having the job.
Finally, a few days after the last interview, I received a candidate email for the DOA that said, "Thank you for your interest, but we have decided to halt the hiring process".
I was obviously confused at the randomness of the email considering what had transpired a couple days before called the DOA and left a message when he did not answer, to be efficient I sent an email as well to find some reason why they suddenly halted employment.
Has been almost a month and the DOA has decided the most professional route to take would be to ignore the call and email.
8 interviews, much wasted time in the waiting room and the lack of the common professional courtesy (at least at this stage of the game) of not receiving even a vague reason for rescinding the job offer, I cannot in good mind recommend this company (or its parent company, Anthem, whom recently purchased the Morrison name) to others. The staff appeared very friendly, though behind the scenes there was little to no protection of the staff. The DOA is openly there only as a stepping stone for career advancement (which is usual in this line of employment) and I suspect cares little for his staff as long as their success pushes is future advancement.
I wish the best for all employees with Morrison and hope they find success in what they do. I hope this helps any prospective employee to understand the hiring process of Morrison, be ready for a very long process.
