I had a phone screening with a recruiter. I made a big mistake at the beginning by asking her to remind me of her name (I had so many interviews that week!). I thought being upfront was a better approach than awkwardly avoiding, but she took it very personally. The recruiter did not have any background in design, it felt like she was reading questions off a piece of paper. She did not know what a design system is. Sometimes you get unlucky and you’re stuck talking to someone you can’t connect with and also cannot recognize talent. It really was not the role I am looking for, but I applied because I am obsessed with the brand. The experience felt petty and unappreciative, which disappoints me as a customer. I finally just got an email rejection, after 5 weeks. I think that’s pretty unprofessional. I never followed up after the call up because she clearly was not interested and was offended I forgot her name (but I did send a super nice thank you!). Receiving the rejection now makes me laugh, and I also have to hold back an obnoxious reply telling her about all my great offers.
