I applied for a Senior Product Manager role and had an initial conversation with a recruiter. The conversation went well, and I was told the next step would involve speaking with the hiring manager. I promptly followed up after our call and even shared my updated availability, but unfortunately, I never received any response. Despite multiple polite follow-ups, I was eventually ghosted with no communication regarding the status of my application. While I understand that priorities shift and companies may move on with other candidates or even close roles unexpectedly, a simple follow-up or closure message would have gone a long way. Ghosting candidates—especially after active engagement—reflects poorly on the company's hiring practices and overall candidate experience.

      Entretien

I met on site with one individual. The in-person interview went well, the environment was attractive, and the conversation was good. Then, they had me complete an at-home "challenge" which consisted of two questions. One was a competitor evaluation, and the other was a sales prospectus for a segment of the market. They expected written responses and a PowerPoint presentation to be given on site. One of the two questions took over 20 hours to complete, as it required research and careful evaluation in order to provide a competent answer. I requested that I be judged on this question alone, and there was no flexibility at all on their side -- I was basically told that I would only be invited back if I answered both questions. This was a sign that they were using my pro bono research to fuel their business decisionmaking, which while not illegal, is demoralizing and disrespectful to the candidates, who are *unemployed* and need to spend their time wisely in order to find gainful employment. I suspected it at this point, but was not sure it was actually happening. When I followed up to ask when my next interview would be, I was told that several of the Senior Product Manager roles were eliminated and that their hiring priorities shifted. Within one week, I see new Senior Product Manager positions popping up on their website, and several of them remaining. I contact the recruiter to ask them to reconcile my observation with what they told me, and receive no answer about it in response. As far as I'm concerned, Medallia is engaging in immoral business practices and does not deserve to hire talent. INTERVIEWEE BEWARE -- Your time might be wasted here, and you are better off looking elsewhere!!!

Thank you for your feedback. I apologize that we didn't better communicate our intention with the challenge. We know that challenges are, well, challenging -- not only for candidates, but for us as well. We dedicate a lot of time to them because we feel that the effort invested up front to make sure that there's a good fit between the candidate and us is well worth it. There's nothing worse than a mismatch. We do ask every candidate to answer both questions on the product challenge for two reasons. First, each question requires a different thought process and we want to evaluate both. Second, we want to keep things fair and consistent across all candidates. Rest assured that we do not use challenge responses for anything other than making hiring decisions. In terms of the Senior Product Management roles opening, then closing, then re-opening, our job openings do change daily as we fill positions and/or our organizational needs change. However, the recruiter should have gotten back to you when you requested more information. I have shared your experience with the recruiting department so that we don't repeat the mistake. I do truly apologize that we delivered a poor experience, but want to thank you for helping us make it better for future candidates. Good luck in your job search and if you have any other suggestions or concerns, please reach out to me at amy.pressman@medallia.com.
