I submitted my cover letter and resume in response to a job ad posted on Craigslist. The company founder emailed me the next day asking for a phone interview for the following day. The phone screen was about ten minutes long. She asked me about my recent experience and about what kind of editor I wanted to be. She scheduled an in person interview with her and the senior editor for the beginning of the next week in their San Francisco office. She emailed me the time and date, and also created a Google Calendar alert for the event.
Their office was very small and clearly would only fit eight or so people at once, and the interview took place around the couch in the middle of their space. The Senior Editor and the Founder took turns asking me questions. A lot of the interview was left for questions I had for them, as well. The interview took only around fifteen minutes, all told. Later that evening, an email informed me that they had chosen another candidate.
