My application was screened by HR before being sent to the individual hiring for the position. That individual contacted me first via e-mail, then via phone for a preliminary phone interview, and then arranged for a 1:1 interview for the next week. The process was very straightforward and very simple; parking was validated, great directions were given and my questions were answered extensively.

Question 1
The manager was hiring for two positions simultaneously--the Research Assistant II position, and a Senior Research Assistant position. He told me he had a candidate with slightly less experience, but with a higher level of education who was also interviewing for the position and said he wanted to hire both of us, but wasn't sure if he should hire the other candidate to the more advanced position, or if he should hire me to that position. He asked me for my opinion as to whom he should hire for which position (i.e., what would I do were I in his shoes doing the hiring?)
The process included an initial interview followed by a panel interview with lab members. Everyone was kind and gracious. The interviews were about a week apart. I received my offer roughly a week after the panel interview.

Very fast and efficient, HR wasn’t as responsive. It was very smoothly with the department I interviewed for but HR takes very long time to reach out for. They call you to make you an offer and get you off guards without giving you time to think it through

The interview itself was good. It was a conference call instead of the typical in-person interview, due to covid-19 protocols. There were a total of 3 interviewers (1 professor, 1 scientist, and 1 member of another dept.). They were very kind, courteous, and respectful. Everything performed in the lab was laid out to me and they answered all of my questions.
The reason for the neutral rating amd not a good rating is the time it takes to even get an interview. I would say it takes about 5-6 months from submitting an application to receiving an offer letter. It takes a minimum of 1 month for them to reach out to you simply for a phone interview. This could have simply been a special case and a more qualified candidate would probably not want as long. However, this was my experience with the interview process at MD Anderson.
