I was supposed to have an interview for the Editorial Assistant opening at 3 pm. I was driving from Los Angeles to San Diego, so I needed a solid two hours to get there. I hit the road at 12:30 pm.
Halfway down, a friend of a friend who works for Just Luxe informed me by text that the hiring manager had filled the position earlier that morning. She didn't bother to conduct all of the interviews, she just filled the position without warning.
Because I was almost there, I decided to just go to the interview anyway, just in case there was a mix-up or they had filled some other position.
When I arrived at the interview, the hiring manager said, "Hey, I guess you didn't get my message. I messaged you this morning to tell you that I was able to fill the position. No need for an interview. Thank you for coming, though."
And like that, she was gone.
I had no idea what message she meant. I later checked my email. Turns out she sent me an e-mail at 1:15 pm - less than two hours before the interview - to cancel on me. She emailed me while I was driving to the interview!!! No call. No 24 hour notice. Just a lousy cancellation email sent immediately before the interview. Not even in the morning (which she claimed), but in the afternoon. She might as well have just sent me a letter by snail mail.
