After submitting my job application, I heard back about a week later with a working session assignment to complete. The assignment focused on evaluating content marketing skills (e.g. social media, email, copywriting, etc.), but completing it did not guarantee moving forward in the process. About a week after submitting the assignment, I was invited to a first round interview with the hiring manager. The next step would have been a panel interview with the marketing team, but I did not move forward to that stage. After receiving a rejection email, I was sent a feedback survey, and I wanted to share what I shared in the survey I was sent: 1. Requiring a project or assignment after the application stage and before any interview is a lot to ask from applicants. It takes a lot of time and effort. If assignments are part of the process, I would recommend saving them for the final stages when there is already mutual interest. That feels more respectful of applicants’ time and energy. 2. Even though I was informed beforehand about the interview format, the experience felt more robotic than conversational. I understand the value of asking everyone the same questions, but the lack of engagement made it difficult to respond naturally or feel like myself. It felt like a one way virtual interview. The interviewer was kind, but I believe the process would benefit from a more human and interactive approach. Interviews are still conversations between people, and allowing for that connection can shape how candidates show up. 3. I was told I would hear back within a week after the interview, but I did not get any updates until almost four weeks later. After putting time into the assignment and interview, the long silence felt discouraging. Even a short update would have made a big difference.

I applied for the role in early August. From there, they then gave me an assignment through a Survey Monkey link and the questions in that working assignment is as follows: -3 blog ideas and explanations - 1 email draft - Proofreading 2 documents - Some content recycling suggestions - Drafting up 1 social media post, and 1 Facebook Ad copy for a potential campaign involving AI After the company loved my assignment, I was then interviewed by another manager for about an hour and it was a scripted interview where I was asked 14 questions that the hiring team used for all candidates to prevent bias. Right after the interview was when my experience became negative, I was told that I was supposed to be given an update by the end of last week. I had to follow up twice asking for updates until the date of writing this review (9/5), I was told that I wouldn't be moving forward. The lack of transparency was a core reason as to why my interview experience was rather negative. I spent a lot of time on the assignment prior to speaking with the manager and candidly answered all of the 14 questions given to all candidates. It made me feel that I was being led on by the hiring team and this is not a knock to the employees themselves as I thought that they were nice, but me having to follow up with them a couple of times and having them drag their feet as to where I stood in the process made me feel that way.

Thank you so much for sharing your feedback about your interview experience. We're truly sorry to hear that the communication around the status of your candidacy fell short of your expectations. While our hiring team is small, we aim to provide a thoughtful and transparent candidate experience, which is why we include details like salary ranges and interview steps upfront in our job descriptions. That said, we understand how frustrating it can be to wait for updates, especially for candidates who move through the process early. Your feedback is valuable, and we appreciate you taking the time to share it with us!

A three hour working session questionnaire on surveymonkey, a one hour individual interview that was recorded to avoid bias. I did not get to the final round. I have to say with all the time and attention put into the process to prepare candidates, provide transparency and eliminate bias, I was a little surprised at how little transparency there was in my rejection notice. After giving four hours of my time, to get an email that felt like it was written for people at the beginning of the application process from a no reply email felt very out of form for what I experienced up to that point. Some feedback and at least a bit of personal courtesy would have been nice given the time and energy prospective employees are putting in for at least 2-3 rounds. EDIT: not only did they say they could not provide feedback for me in a follow up email after I requested it, but then they sent an email asking ME for feedback via a survey. I understand this might have just been poor timing, but I found that incredibly insensitive.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your interview experience. We strive to be as transparent and respectful as possible, so we understand how receiving a more general rejection notice might have been frustrating after the time and effort you put into the process. While we genuinely wish we could provide personalized feedback to every candidate, we have a small hiring team of one, which makes that challenging. Regarding the Candidate Experience Survey asking for feedback, the survey is optional and is meant to help us improve our (sometimes unconventional) interview process by understanding how candidates feel about it. We can see how the timing might have felt off, particularly when we weren’t able to provide specific feedback to you. That wasn’t our intention. We’re committed to making our processes more thoughtful and transparent, and your input is incredibly helpful as we work toward that goal. Thank you again for your time and for sharing your experience with us.
