      Entretien

I applied for the position, and received an email from their team regarding availability the very next day. I was able to schedule an interview for a few days later that week. When I had my phone screen, the interviewer seemed disinterested or bored. She rattled through the questions like she was trying to get this over with as quickly as possible. She did not come across as someone who enjoys what she does, or wants others to be excited about working for her company.

It's a bit tedious. You meet with four or five people and all of them ask the same questions. They already have someone hired in mind but decide to waste your time. Don't go unless you ask them how far along they are in the interview process. It's a waste of time. They don't have the professional courtesy to call back and let you know the status of your candidacy.

I interviewed for the CXM position in LA. First I spoke with a recruiter in NYC who was very nice. Next was a phone interview with the Senior CXM, that went well and I was scheduled for an in person interview the following week and was asked to make a presentation. The face to face interview included meeting with a project manager, 2 CXM’s, and finally concluded with the presentation with the Senior CXM. The project manager was great. Super nice guy, we had a pretty in depth discussion about my work history and background. So far so good. Next was the part with the 2 CXM’s. This is where it got kind of weird. One of them appeared to be high during the interview! They asked me a series of behavioral questions most of which didn’t necessarily pertain to my experience directly. When I mentioned that I didn’t want to just make up stories with the STAR method to answer, one of them asked me “what is the STAR method?”. Really? You’re asking in depth behavioral interview questions and helping make hiring decisions at a SaaS company and you never heard of the STAR method? It was fairly obvious the questions he asked came directly from the front page of a google search. For the record, I have 5 years CSM Saas experience, great references, and I had plenty of STAR answers prepared for relevant questions to my background. I’m not going to make stuff up to get hired though. He then proceeded with “ok so I’ll throw you some softballs” in a really condescending manner and proceeded to ask me questions about Drake vs the Beatles, my favorite movie, and whether or not I use cannabis. It was rather unprofessional. Finally, I gave my presentation to the Senior CXM. I had prepared for 3 days straight, studying the company and it’s place in the cannabis industry. I was probably a little nervous as I knew the last portion of the interview didn’t go well and I really wanted this role. She was very nice and informative, and thanked me for taking the time to really learn about the company. She said I would get word back to me within a day but they did not. 3 days later I got a rejection letter. It’s a shame because I know I’d be great for this role. I feel the only thing that really prevented me from getting hired was the stoner CXM who apparently prefers nepotism over experience and qualifications. My advice if you want to get hired here: smoke a joint before the interview and if you don’t have an honest answer, just make one up.
