You usually get hired through an agency and after a probationary period they may decide to take you on. If they are happy with your perfomance they might ask you to apply for a permanent position with them, after doing that, at some point they take you to a room where a brief interviewed is conducted and if you are happy with everything then they ask you to sign your permanent contract with them and that's it really, fairly simply and straightforward.

interview was in a posh hotel. food coffee the works. we used to make a joke in work saying it was the first and last time we was treated with respect .
