I interviewed with Poly Bucheon. The interviewer was very rushed. She asked about five questions from what I presume was a printed list. Most of the interview time was taken up by my questions and comments. The interview was conducted via Skype. The connection was not stable, and in addition to the interviewer wearing a face mask (understandably so), it was hard to clearly understand her questions at times. When I asked for clarification, she seemed to be bothered. From what I gather, the school does seem to value a high quality of education and prides itself in offering its students a rigorous program. Unfortunately, the interview felt too hurried and ineffective.

I applied through a recruiter and then was put in contact with the head teacher and we set up a video call. It was a nice casual conversation but also informative. I was also put in contact with a member of staff to give me more information about life style in Poly.

Interviewed with school admin at Anyang location. Interview was about 30 mins and was fairly easy. She was nice and very honest about hours. However, she offered me 2.8 million KRW after telling me I would be working 10 hour days. Then told me that if she paid me 3.0 million KRW she would expect a lot more work out of me. At this point I had no intentions on accepting anything from her, but I remained professional throughout the interview and when asked I told her I was willing to negotiate salary. The recruiter messaged me on kakao talk the next day trying to use scare tactics such as “they haven’t made an offer due to your salary requirements” thinking I would say “okay I’ll take 2.8 and abnormally long hours” but instead I thanked the recruiter for their time and let them know I will not be interviewing with anymore schools they have listed. I honestly had two job offers on the table already for 3.0 million KRW with 9-6 hour work days and was just interviewing to explore all of my options. The recruiter and school admin thinking they could get over on me was funny to say the least. Do not let these recruiters or school admin low ball you. They have a shortage of teachers and need you way more than you need them.
