The interview process was a complete waste of time. This practice by companies is borderline unethical and should be called out.
The first round was a 45-minute interview with two engineers on the team. This was just an introductory round with a background check.
The second round was a trial day where I had to spend a day working on a task and present the results at the end of the day. The given task was related to the test automation work for one of the games. The task required the candidate to figure out a huge part of the codebase and write code for the problem in a complete working day (9 hours). The difficulty of the task was fairly high and required one to work without breaks on figuring it out.
After 9 hours, there was a 30-minute round where I had to present my solution and answers questions from the team. Everything went quite well and the engineer interviewing expressed that they liked the solution. After the round I was told by them to wait for 2 weeks to hear back from them as they want to interview some more candidates.
After waiting for two weeks and not hearing anything back from them, I wrote a reply to the HR person asking if they had made a decision. It has been a month and I have not heard back from them.
So essentially I spent a total of ~11 hours interviewing with them only to not get a response in the end. I wanted to put this here so that they will fix this unethical practice and treat respect a candidate's time.
