Yet another company that disrespects a candidate's work and demonstrates a poor engineering culture. My interview process began with a screening call, followed by an interview with the head of engineering and after that they asked me to work on a test assignment with a one-week deadline. The task description claims (twice or even thrice) that you have to keep it very simple. Search "JET test assignment" on GitHub for the details. But in short, you need to implement internal money transfers for their Takeaway Pay product. Ah yeah, you need to email your solution in a zip archive. Yes, in 2023 when even my dog has a GitHub account. I completed the test assignment and emailed the solution. And the answer was the following: "the code is way too simple", "negative amount is accepted", "you're always throwing unchecked exception for no reason", "no concurrency lock implementation" and other nonsense junior level comments. Why nonsense? Okay, I don't want to explain my solution in detail here, you can easily check it on GitHub, as I mentioned above. But, for instance, I implemented the main concurrent integration test showing that my solution utilizes database optimistic locking for simultaneous updates. There is simply no single reason to use additional concurrent locks. And they won't be able to scale an approach with only concurrent locks (if they care about data consistency of course). Thus, we have a very indicative situation, when the company has not enough expertise to judge a candidate's solution and provides no room for discussion. And any interview process is a two-way game, not just a candidate selection. So yeah, hope that my story will help other people to better understand what kind of engineering culture they will actually encounter.
