Initial chat with recruiter, followed by a take-home exercise asking the candidate to redesign a screen in their app (unpaid) with minimal context and expectations. Told to allocate 1-2 hours on the assignment, but realistically expect to spend about 4+ hours at a minimum. Heavily focused on visual design, perhaps at the cost of usability; very Dribbble-esque. Feedback was surface-level and primarily focused on the visual execution.

I had an introductory interview with a member from the hiring team. The call itself went as expected with opportunities to learn more about the role. However, right at the end of the call I was asked to complete a "design challenge" asking to solution for a topic/feature related to the existing application. The senior talent partner confirmed that the challenge is not for an existing feature, but still the prompt requested designs for the application. I did not proceed to the next round but highly encourage other designers to be cautious around completing challenges that relate to or for the application. I have seen this position posted several times over the next few months.
