      Entretien

I applied online and a week later was contacted by the company to set a phone interview with an in-house recruiter. A few minutes passed the scheduled time, I got an email that the recruiter got tied up with something else, so it needs to be rescheduled. So, we set another time a few days later, when she called 17 minutes late than the scheduled time. She was again having a crazy week. I was not sure if this was a lack of professionalism at the personal level or is it the company culture to put too much on the employee than they can handle. The interview was short. It seemed more than the technical skills and engineering ability, the main concern was to know the salary I am looking for. She mentioned they had found a couple of good Engineers, who eventually declined the offer. I think the company needs to think about its priority. If you want to hire smart people in Toronto where the housing is going through the roof, you need to be willing to pay for a somewhat decent life. There were companies who made good business decisions before big data analytics came in, may be you just need to look for other ways.

Tediously long interview process. Too many unnecessary steps. One of the worst interview experiences I have ever had. When you're jobless and you're desperately trying to land something. You're under extreme stress already and then taking you to the last stage, after so many interviews, only to reject you was brutal. I had to take a long mental health break after that because I couldn't cope with the trauma. The hope they give you only to crush it in the worst possible way and that too after a 3 months long wait, with no proper feedback but just saying that my background isn't a match. Isn't background alignment one of the first few checks in the process? I wish there were some laws around companies unethical practices of making people suffer so much just to fill a position. I must say the recruiter was the kindest and the most understanding. She kept me posted on each step but I could sense her helplessness too with the technical team and their unreasonable expectations. They invited me to an interview with the VP stating it's going to be conversational but it was more around technical design. When walking in, be prepared for technical discussions and also don't expect it to be comfortable.

Spark vs Flink. How to convince management to get more resources to analyze a dataset that's too big to be processed with current resources?
