I applied for the role online. I was contacted by the recruiter of the role for an 'exploratory' call. A week later, the role's hiring manager showed interest and a zoom call with no video was scheduled. After that, there was a language test that was followed by 5 interviews via Zoom with video. It would have been nice to have been told the structure for these interviews prior. There was a taxonomy overview with the team lead, a professional assessment with the hiring manager I had spoken to initially, a card sorting exercise, a situational questions interview & a data analysis one. Interviews went really well except for the card sorting exercise as well as the data analysis. I felt that these interviewers did not know how to formulate questions and give proper context for the exercise in question. I felt that instead of contextualizing what I was looking at, they were more interested on 'gotcha' questions. I felt spoken down to by one of these interviewers and I was made fun of my national origin when I was asked if I would have completed the card sorting exercise differently when doing it for the market the job was for. My answer was followed by laughter and demeaning comments of that particular market. And then questioned whether or not I was from that particular country. This was completely uncalled for. And I struggled to understand one of the interviewer's English. The recruiter was extremely attentive and responsive. She was great at motivating me during this process even saying that she personally believed I was a great fit for the role, given my background. She reached out to me via phone to provide the final feedback on the interviews and told me she received great feedback, that I had a very strong profile, but the team was looking for a stronger profile on data analysis. She added that she was certain I could keep on applying for similar roles. I was not surprised by this feedback at all given how I was treated during the technical interviews. Perhaps the company should require technical interviews to be performed without video just like the initial interview with hiring manager as bias appears to be an internal issue with Indeed. It's frustrating when you know that someone is targeting you based on characteristics you have no control over and then you're told you're not good in an area you know you have no issues with. It feels demeaning. I cannot recommend Indeed as a future employer given my short experience with the company and the kind of biased individuals that work there. I strongly believe that has a worker, you won't remember the employer perks. Like ping pong tables, parties, and free massages. But you will remember kindness and compassion, which includes treating everyone and being treated with respect.

      Question 1

What do you know about Indeed? Why do you want to work here? What is your ideal workplace environment? Several situational questions about how you would act if a certain scenario was happening. Card sorting exercise, multiple logic/taxonomy/categorization exercises, data analysis exercises.

Thanks for leaving a review of your recent interview with us at Indeed. Our goal is to make the candidate experience for all interviews great, so we’re sorry to read that you had a less than positive experience. Hiring Managers are required to go through unconscious bias training to ensure that candidates are judged solely on their qualifications, so reading your review and the allegations of bias due to national origin is something that we take quite seriously and will investigate. We are committed to advancing, cultivating and preserving a culture of diversity, inclusion and belonging because it makes us a stronger, more successful company, and because it directly aligns with our mission to help all people get jobs. If you have additional feedback on your interview or the interview process, please send an email to us at inside@indeed.com where we can continue a confidential conversation. We also ask that you give us another chance and encourage you to continue looking for additional roles at Indeed.

Really great process. It was a little long, but I learned a lot about preparing an interview and how to answer behavioral questions. So first, a recruiter from Indeed contacted me on LinkedIn. Then we had a 30 min call to assess my qualifications. She already prepared me for the next steps and let me know what to expect. (The emails they send are also very detailed and tell you how and what to prepare.) I then had an interview with the Taxonomy Manager, all behavioral questions. The manager was really nice and was willing to repeat questions and let me take my time before answering. The next step was a 1-hour language assessment. After I passed this (I was told I passed a few days later), I had a "panel" interview, where I talked to 6 people, one at a time, for about 30 to 45 minutes each. Half were asking behavioral questions, and another half more technical stuff like card sorting or questions about analyzing some data. This panel thing took 3 hours. This was hard! Especially since the technical stuff which I ended up “failing” was at the end when I was a little bit tired. A few days later, the recruiter called me to say that, unfortunately, they would not be making me an offer because of the technical portion of the interview, which I had "failed." I was disappointed, but I am a very positive person and believe that everything happens for a reason. The whole process was very cordial! I would only recommend doing the technical portion (card sorting…) earlier in the process or earlier in the panel interview, and perhaps cut some of the time for this panel interview. The whole process was about 4 hours of interviewing + 1 hour for the assessment over the course of 4-5 weeks.
