Try out is usually around 80 people with a 1000 yard ocean swim, and then a run-swim-run. Come in top 30 (I was in the top 15). Then you get to schedule your interview. The interview is 100 points (I got in the 90s). You will receive a letter whether you got excepted into training. There is 3 to 4 training sessions you may chose from; weekends or straight week. Each session is 8 days, around 10-12 hours a day; there is no pay, but since HB is the only place where training takes place, they provide hotel. In training you may get cut at anytime, and it consists of a physical event (vitamin), lecture, hands on training, and tests/ quizes. At the end of training there is a second interview on your last day, then you will find out if you made it. Everything is based on your performance and point scale. Just because you have the most points doesn't mean you will pass or they won't cut you.
-It's all worth it; people are awesome, super friendly and reliable; you get to make rescues, talk to people, administer first aid/ cpr, and sit in your tower watching the sun set over the ocean almost every shift. All making good pay.
