I applied through an employee referral, and was contacted by a recruiter a couple days later. I interviewed over the phone, then was assigned an edit test. A few days after I submitted my edit test, I interviewed with another editor on the team in person in the NY office. A couple days later, I was asked to interview with a staff member higher up on the masthead, again in person, in the NY office. It all went incredibly well; everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. Phone interview and first in-person interview were more technical, but the third was less formal and more of a get-to-know-you type of interview. It was all a very standard process, it just took (predictably) a while. I had to wait a couple weeks for a final answer, but everyone was very transparent and professional.

The interview process was quite messy and unprofessional. The editor forgot to call me like they said they would and then acted surprised and didn't know who I was when I called them. The editor seemed like they were in a rush to get off the phone and thus the call only lasted 10 minutes and they didn't give me a chance to ask questions.
Then they said that I would have the editorial test by that night. I never received it, so I emailed them the next day and never heard back. Then I called the following day and they said that I would have it by the end of the week. I never got the test and gave up.

Easy interview process. Mostly over the phone. Two phone screens (one with recruiter, another with editor) and one in person. HR was a unreliable (called 30 minutes after interview time) but otherwise it was a fairly straightforward process.
