I applied for the job on LinkedIn and was contacted by a recruiter who asked me to schedule a time to talk with them for the intro/screening chat. First issue: the only time available on their calendar was about 3 weeks later which was annoying but I understood that they must have a lot on their schedule.
When it finally came time for the call however, I waited and waited and received no call. I was then informed later that the recruiter was on holiday and had forgotten to update their scheduling calendar... Again very annoying but I was really interested in the job opportunity and didn't mind waiting a bit more to do an interview. 3 days later on a Friday, we did the call and it seemed to go great.
The next step was a take-home assignment. The recruiter said they would send it over that day and I could work on it over the weekend... I never received the assignment. On Monday I messaged the recruiter and asked about the assignment and they apologized and sent it over. I proceeded to work my butt off trying to strike a balance between speed and writing perfect production level code. I basically pulled an all-nighter and had made amazing progress.
Next day I was finishing up the assignment and writing some automated tests when I received an email from the recruiter. They thanked me for my time and said they had already hired someone for the role. They encouraged me to apply for a role in the future that more closely matched my skills... not to sound cocky, but I had literally been working as a design systems engineer for 4 years and I am probably one of the best out there in this niche field, but that's not the point. They had so many opportunities to tell me they were about to hire someone. They could have at least waited a bit more before sending the assignment since they had delayed so many times before... I was strung along to the very last moment and made to do unnecessary time wasting work.
I was absolutely disgusted by this interview process.
