the interview process was quick - i was contacted by HR to schedule a phone call - i was contacted a few days later by one of the managers in the department - questions were easy and general - contacted by HR to complete an at-home assignment, submitted assignment and i was then invited to the office for in-person interviews with four team members - spoke to each for about 20 minutes and one was solely on the company culture - found out a few days later that i received the job.

The interview process was quick and thourough. There was a phone screen, and then a test. Finally an in-person interview to round out the process. Each step was unique, and had it's challenges. The test that some other folks talked about wasn't easy, but I got the impression that they're not just looking at how well the candidate does, but also how they tackle learning new things, gathering information, and distilling it for a broader audience. It was less about the answers, and more about how I arrived at the answers. Maybe some people feel like this is overwhelming or gave up? Seems to me that the test might be sucessfully weeding some folks out (and vice versa) , which is part of any interview process.

Question 1
I was asked to tell them about myself, outside of my profesisonal life. They asked who I was personally, and it made me feel like they wanted a full picture of who I am.

The first thing I want to say is this: don't ever let everyone else's opinion shake you away from something. I've read a lot of negative reviews about this process and I have not felt negative about it yet, in fact it's been very timely. They keep reminding you of their "transparency" and that they believe in not wasting anyone's time.
I applied through the website and was contacted the day after. I had a date and a time for a 30 minute phone chat before noon.
The 30 minute chat was actually more like 45, the gentleman I was talking to was very friendly. By the end of the interview I felt really good and he said he would "talk to his team" and either he would "send me an assignment" or "let me know otherwise". Three hours later I was sent the assignment.
The assignment was rigorous and I spent a great deal of time on the first question, but it was okay because the last two questions were easy to find online and through the website. I turned my assignment in, and the next morning I received an email from the same recruiter asking if I could go into the office for a 3 hour interview the next week, again stating if that at any point they felt as though the position wasn't a good fit for me it would be cut short.
This interview was not intimidating and I enjoyed meeting the three gentleman. Very standard interview questions and and it's clear what kind of candidate they are looking to hire.
No offer yet, but I hope to hear back from the company. All in all, I've not felt the process to be impersonal at all.

Honestly, it was a good experience even though I did not get the job. After a phone interview they gave me an assignment which did not quite meet their standards. I do believe everything on the assignment could have easily been taught to me even though it did not come as naturally at first (I am a bad test taker!) It really caught me off guard. I wrote them asking what went wrong and the man I had been in contact with sent me an awesome email explaining the pros and cons throughout my process. I really appreciated this because most companies drop you like third period french once they have decided not to hire you. So, thank you ZenPayroll for the productive and constructive feedback. I am ready and willing to learn if you ever reached back out to me. I truly believe in your mission.
