J'ai passé un entretien chez Goldberg Segalla (Los Angeles, CA)

      Entretien

I am a senior litigator with nearly 30 years of experience. I had never heard of this form until a recruiter from Goldberg reached out to offer me an interview based on my LinkedIn profile. They wanted to schedule the interview immediately, and within three days, I had a meeting with Steve, the managing partner of the LA office. I immediately recognized Steve by face, and I thought we had a really great 1.5-hour conversation during which we discussed case management, motivating junior attorneys, the importance of knowing the Rules of Civil Procedure inside and out, and more. It felt more like a chat with a colleague than a formal interview. Based on what the firm said they were looking for, I couldn't see a better fit than myself. At the end, I was told the next step would be a further interview with a few other managing partners in different cities. Given how quickly I got the first interview, I assumed the next would be scheduled within a week. After three weeks with no word, I began actively exploring other options. Finally, nearly a month later, their recruiter contacted me to schedule my second interview immediately. She apologized for the delay and explained it was due to scheduling issues. The second interview was with Emilio Grillo, the managing partner in the NYC office and a partner I the Miami office. This interview appeared to be a complete waste of time as they asked no questions and basically told me the decision was entirely in Steve’s hands. I emailed Steve after the interview to let him know that it had taken place and I also sent a Representative Matters/Deal Sheet just to give a bit more information. The next day, I received a form email from Steve telling me they were going in a different direction. I’m dying to know who they picked but I feel like I wasted a month of my life on this stupid process. This isn’t Jones Day. I think that soon after I talked to Steve, he found someone he liked more but perhaps that person wasn’t sure they wanted the position. So I was strung along as a Plan B until they received the commitment they wanted.
