Excessive. 5+ interviews and a technical assessment. Interviews themselves were fine and pleasant. Experience with the recruiter, less so. Correspondence with the recruiter felt AI generated. Going through all of the stages only to be met with an automated rejection was very disheartening. Given all you are expected to do and how much time you are expected to carve out for these opportunities, I felt strung along until they made their decision. Very disheartening process, despite my great respect for the company and what they provide at large.

The role I had applied for was for a new team being formed internally, but was at the same tier as Senior Analyst. I had heard great things about GitLab which is why I decided to apply and go through the recruiting process. I was pretty content with the initial interview process and was really loving the conversations I had with the whole team. I went through about ~6 video calls and got a response 2 weeks after saying some restructuring had happened, and they would have to pause recruiting for the role, but that if the budget had been available I would've most likely gotten an offer. This was disappointing to learn, though the recruiter offered to prioritize me for any other role I was interested in. I thought that was still a pretty good situation to be in, and was told another recruiter in charge of the new role I was interested in would be reaching out shortly. Another 2 weeks passed and I didn't get a response. I took another look at the job board and noticed that the new role I was waiting to hear back about had been filled, so I definitely was not prioritized in the process. I understand recruiting can be a very time consuming matter, but I'm severely disappointed that they failed to communicate with me about this at all. I also noticed the role I had initially applied for (Senior Analyst) had been re-posted, and I still have not heard back about this either. I will sadly have to pass up engaging with this talent process any further, as I have other opportunities cropping up and can't afford to wait any longer. I hope the GitLab recruiting process can be more respectful of applicants' time, especially after I put about a month of time into the process and set time aside to prioritize meeting the team.
