Phone screen from HR person, then phone screen from hiring manager and team, then in-person group interview. Everything seemed to go well. I was scheduled to have an interview with my counterpart in Brazil the following week. After the interview I was shown around the office, I thanked the hiring manager for his time and I left, looking forward to my interview the next week. The next day I sent a thank you email, again thanking the interview team for their time and consideration and stated that I was looking forward to my phone interview the next week. Not 5 minutes later I got an email from HR stating that they had decided to fill the role internally. I'm fairly certain this isn't true because the position stayed open for months. I never got any feedback regarding why I wasn't being considered, despite many requests...complete silence. I don't think this is any way to treat a candidate, especially one that had to drive 2 hours each way and stay in a hotel overnight to make this happen.

I had a series of phone and on-site interviews. I first had a phone interview with the hiring manager which went real well a good repore was established and the opportunity sounded exciting and challenging. I was next scheduled for an on-site interview with the Director of IT, a couple of peers and the team I would manage. This series of interviews went real well. From the Director and Peers it was the standard tell me about yourself and then specific scenario based questions. From the team it was a two way interview they asking questions about my management style and how I was going to support them and me asking about issues, concerns and expectations. I next was scheduled for an interview with another Sr. Level Director with some of the same scenario based questions and such. It was after this interview that we started salary negotiations and I was very surprised that the salary question came this late into the process. The company is a good company and they have a good work culture. Bottom line is that we could not come to terms on salary.
