I was very interested in the position and really excited about the opportunity. I spent days preparing and felt very prepared when it came time for the phone screen. I thought my answers to all the questions were great I never felt so prepared. But the recruiter said at this time they didn't have an opening for the sales MDP but they did for customer services and if I would be interested in that. I said yes, thinking it would be a way to later go into sales within the company. She then started asking me all these customer service questions and why I want to do customer service which I didn't I applied to the sales position. Then she was going through my resume asking how this relates to customer service. And continue to ask me 5 times why I am interested in different aspects of customer service and how it fits in my career path.
Overall, it was very strange because clearly my resume is tailored to marketing/ sales roles and that was the role I was applying for not a customer service one. It was almost as if she was just reading off a sheet and switch to customer service once I said I would be interested in that and it was a way to learn the company and move into sales later on.
As a recruiter, you should adapt your questions and the interview to how the interview is answering because clearly I was not applying to work in customer service.
Only good thing was they followed up to tell me I would not be moving on.
