      Entretien

Applied via email and got invited to a one on one interview the following Monday. I always research the company and employer via their social media feeds (as employers do to potential employees) to know what to expect. The manager, who conducts the interview, is a 20 something year old bass player in an all girl 'stoner punk' garage band. Her interview style is pretty laid back, the interview was conducted in a little seating area in the hall of the cinema. She asked the typical what experience do you have and why do you want to work here questions. The dress code seemed pretty casual considering the manager had facial piercings and blue hair. The interview lasted 15 minutes, we had a couple of off topic film/past experience related conversations. I was asked to email in my references and was told I would hear back from her by the Friday. The basic rundown is for the concessions/customer service position you serve food/alcohol, set up and clean up before and after screenings, sell tickets, change the marquee outside, etc. I'm not sure how many people are actually on staff, but only two people work each day which would be a supervisor and yourself so the position seems very hands on and requires a jack of all trades attitude to fill all the roles. After a successful interview, I was contacted by email a few days later and asked to come in for what they call a "trial shift" on the Sunday. Even though I was being asked to work, I was never asked for any banking information or even my social security number which was strange. As I know that trial shifts are a common but not legal practice, I replied saying that I was available for the shift and inquired as to whether it would be a paid trial shift. The correspondence immediately stopped there, I never got a reply confirming the shift or the pay situation which was also strange because they were quick to reply prior to this point. I didn't bother contacting her again or working the trial shift, I just moved on to other opportunities. Considering I'm still seeing the job being re-posted I'm guessing I dodged a bullet.
