      Entretien

3rd party recruiter reached out. Somewhat clueless about job duties, but nice enough guy. Then took a personality and IQ test--yep one of those companies that uses standardized testing SMH LOL. Then, did a phone tech interview with the Director. Here's where they could've saved me time and money. If I didn't do great on the tech screen why call me in for an interview? I fly to Denver. Met with three of the most unprofessional guys I've ever interviewed with in my life. One was late and the Director couldn't even connect to the conference call (yeah, and I didn't have the required tech skills?). Sat for another technical test while they watched me and cracked jokes back and forth. A few more tech questions after the tech test which included firewall questions--where on my resume did it say I worked on firewalls and CISCO? When I asked what Incident Response meant to them--they all laughed and one said, "Oh silly job titles..." The job isn't really about incident response, it's technical support. Again I was asked my salary range (which is probably why I didnt get the job seeing I wanted the top tier of the range, plus this position was for an overnight shift--no one bothered to tell me that!) Let's not forget how I was asked the heritage of my last name, I'm surprised they just didn't ask me my age! Unprofessional. I smiled my way through a horrible experience. I know I sound bitter but I'm glad they didn't make me an offer. I almost didn't go to the interview last minute, but decided to see what ViaWest was all about (yeah, it's Flexential but ViaWest is known in Denver). They're a small fish in a big pond. Good luck the next time you're acquired!

First was a recruiter phone screen with a few questions to determine baseline knowledge. Mostly networking questions. The more formal interview was ~2.5 hours long. It had a large array of questions about different networking ideas, terminologies, and principles. That was a large bulk of the questions with about 25% being general Linux, VMWare, and windows server questions. Then there is a white board of diagnosing and fixing a few network issues. Overall a large bit of questions but the interviewers were very friendly and I could tell they are looking more for thought process and reasoning than do you know everything under the sun. Beware they are looking to hire for either a morning 12 hour shift or a night 12 hour shift with weekend coverage as well. They seem to run almost 24/7 and I feel this should be mentioned on the phone screen instead of at the end of the formal interview as I would not have gone that far into the interview. I also feel my offer was low based on qualifications wanted and needed to pass interview process and that seems to be a running trend with other employees on their glass door reviews.

Honestly too many to list all here. If you have a CCNA and remember a majority of the material you will be fine.

This is a company that will shamelessly waste your time and just bombard you with technical questions. Prepare for a long game of IT Jeopardy if you plan on interviewing here. Interviewers here have no social skills and rely on IQ tests and technical questions to vet candidates. What this results in are un-fit, poor social skill types that will be condescending towards you as "know-it-alls" that can't do any sort of critical thinking other than 'analyzing' your test scores. The same toxic attitude that plagues many IT professionals these days. Seriously many of these 'test' questions can be easily looked up on Google. Not everyone has a photographic memory. I've worked with these technologies daily but I don't have the memory of a dictionary and for this role, that's all that matters. Right off the bat the recruiter working for Flexential would ask typical HR pre-screen questions. Some typical IT computer questions to start as well by a recruiter just reading off a script. You will then be sent an "IQ" and "personality" test. Yep one of those types of companies. You're not a person, just a number. After passing this you will be brought in for yet another test at a computer. Again, facts that can be easily google'd. If you pass this, you will be invited to a panel interview where they will bombard you with more IT test related questions. Only had a 10 minute chat about the company itself and it's culture, etc. During the interview they would joke amongst themselves and not respect your time or effort. After going through all of this and putting up with their un-professionalism, I was told they were 'on the fence' with me and I was told that they would "probably hire me" after an hour long chat on the following Monday. Was told by a main manager that I'll probably get the offer and the same from their HR rep, I just "have to show my enthusiasm for how much I want it". I go in Monday and meet the 'manager' that I would be directly working for. I'm asked how much I want the role, and at the time I was doing everything in my power to land this job. Right off the bat I could tell my would-be 'manager' did not have faith in me. He asked "how many hosts are in a /24 CIDR block" of an IP address, I answered 254, which is correct. I get a "technically, that the Cisco answer" and that I'm actually wrong, because you have to consider the "default gateway". So this manager is apparently more knowledgeable than Cisco education, and assumed I don't know what a default gateway is. He then asks questions about the details of my Europe long term travel I mentioned on my resume, with an attitude of "why is this on my resume?" as if there's something wrong with it. He then asks where else I'm interviewing at, which is none of their business. Absolutely unprofessional. I should have just walked out right then and there. After this meeting, they tell me to expect an answer the next day, but 4 days later, I get a response from HR that they won't give me an offer. This is a company that won't stay true to their word and just keep you waiting and waste your time. I am absolutely disappointed in Flexential for the disrespect they showed me during this entire interview process. This is a place I would never want to work under toxic managers that don't respect you as human beings.
