Summary:
Process is very slow. Company is unethical. They offer no transparency on their side but demand absolute transparency from you. They will string you along and use various stalling tactics. Will tell candidates to expect offer by end of day, then the following week will say they are going in another direction.
Process:
Total process took over 2 months. Applied online, recruiter phone screen, then two 30 minute conversations with the hiring manager and the VP. Progressed to the onsite which was six 30 minute zoom interviews with various members of the team.
Afterwards was told feedback was really positive and that I would hear back in a few days. Checked back in a few days for an update, and recruiter told me the team was still "working through the process" and provided no other specifics. This back and forth of me asking for updates and the recruiter stringing me along would go on for another 2 weeks. Finally they told me that I should expect to receive an offer by end of day. Long story short, there was no offer, instead they asked for a list of references. After another week, recruiter responded that the team was moving in another direction and provided no specific feedback.
Feedback:
I'm not sure if this company is unethical or incompetent. They definitely like to string candidates along by asking for a reference check and providing really vague responses when asked for status updates. What's weird is that my reference submitted the form late at night (10pm) and I received the rejection phone call first thing the following morning (830am). I am skeptical that the hiring team could review the reference that quickly given how slow all other aspects of the process has been. Further evidence that the reference check was just a stalling tactic to string along candidates.
In the end, I'm glad that this opportunity didn't work out. I have no interest in working for a company that is so unethical and sketchy. They offer no transparency on their side but demand absolute transparency from the candidate. They say they'll get back to you at a certain date with next steps or an offer and when that time arrives, they'll ask you for something else (e.g. reference check) to stall and keep your hopes up.
Recommendation:
To the HR team at Five9, instead of responding to this review with a generic, vague response about how you care about the candidates experience etc etc, please take that time and effort to review your internal processes and larger cultural problems. I can't imagine that this problem is isolated to the hiring process. Clearly there are larger, fundamental issues here with your company. This is really unacceptable, especially during a pandemic.

20 minute review of last job details and what to expect in next interview. No real review of technical or business knowledge - this seemed to be a basic screening process.
Good, easy process. 4 total interviews - Initial screening, Product teams, engineering. Process took a long time though. 30 min to 45 min discussion on background, PM processes etc. In the did not get the offer but enjoyed the conversations

VC with the HR and then with the business manager. The HR round was more of an information round plus screening where she asked for details about projects, skills and technology etc
