The phone interview screener was very brief and nonspecific. The interviewer was clearly working down a preset list of questions and asked no follow up questions. She showed no interest or engagement in my responses. When asked for my preferred salary range, I gave a range within the one listed in the job posting. But she informed me that the range they put in the posting is not accurate for a starting range. They start people at the very bottom of the range listed regardless of experience so they "have room to grow."
