2. Hiring Manager Phone Call
3. Onsite Interview
The HR/Recruitment staff had made a scheduling mistake to where I arrived an hour earlier than they "the local interview team" originally wanted me. I really did not want to drive back home (20 min drive) and back there considering it was their mistake, and I had just eaten. I waited in the lobby for approximately 20 minutes and had asked for a cup of coffee to wait out until they were ready, but the part-time on-site HR staff (she told me she was part-time HR) seemed kind of snooty about that request and me waiting in the lobby even though I furnished the e-mail and showed her I was on time for the interview.
The hiring manager came and greeted me in the lobby and fortunately did not make me wait the full hour. Interview went positive from that moment on. Facility looked really nice on the inside (not institutional white) , engineers, and staff were very nice and respectful. I prepared a nice cover letter and portfolio for my on-site interview. Interview was casual round table with questions about my background and skills they were looking for.
After the interview I waited for a follow-up as I did not have anyone's contact information besides the corporate recruiter. Over a month went by after my on-site interview and I gave them so space as I was busy with other interviews, but the recruiter or HR should had followed up with a rejection notice. I had followed up with the only contact I had, the recruiter, and she did not respond after 1 week of my e-mail, so I followed up again and then got a response. I found out they had filled the position with an internal candidate.
I've had far worse interviews than this, but I think the company would had been a nice place to work they just need some improvement on their corporate recruitment and welcome reception. This review is an opportunity for them to make improvement as far as welcome reception and recruitment.
