Monster Ad entitled "Business Development Manager/Sales/Account Manager". EDC refers to this position as an "Engagement Manager." Initial screening interview. Basically, have you sold anything? Great. On to next step. Interview with the founder Antoniette Allocca. Very passionate and smart person. BEWARE - - this is really a "Commission Only" sales position. That is what they really want. Make no mistake - - even though there is a salary listed, their main goal is COMMISSION only. (Easily heard in her voice. In fact, you CANNOT start with a salary and then move to a commissioned position!) Antoniette covers the background of the company and then multiple "Role Playing" sessions with some sophisticated calling techniques. Much akin to the "Challenger Sales Model." 1. Research, 2. Hook (Insight) 3. Setup meeting or phone call. The company has done an excellent job with SEO and Google Analytics. EDC appears at the top or very near the top when Googling "Technical Writing Services." This could be a great job for someone who is motivated and can live without any income for the ramp up period. Keep in mind - - you are really "reselling" consultants with a markup (commission) on their hourly rate of which you get a percentage. They say the work is guaranteed but that is really subject to the quality of consultants/talent. Again, you are subject to the local market. To be really honest, it would be best if they changed this to a "commission only" job. Ethically, that is what I would do.

We understand that it is very disappointing to be disqualified for a job. Thank you for taking the time to write this review. I know that it is disheartening to receive an email that states: "We appreciate your interest in essential Data and the time you invested in applying for the BDM position. We ended up moving forward with another candidate, but we'd like to thank you for talking to our team and giving us the opportunity to learn about your skills and accomplishments." The skills required to be a successful BDM (Business Development Manager) at Essential Data are: The ability and desire to sell, excellent communication skills, resilience and the ability to cope with rejection, a high degree of self-motivation and ambition, the skills to work both independently and as part of a team, empathy, emotional intelligence, active listening, confidence, optimism, time management, and integrity. I wish you all the best for your future endeavors! Unfortunately, your skills during the interview did not meet our high standards. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

Similar interview process described by several reviewers below. Starts off with their VP Tom for a brief overview of EDC and my background, then goes to Antoinette the CEO. She asked a few questions and then explains earnings potential of $250K and says most of her reps own 2 homes. Asked what my dreams are and what I'd do with all the money I made. This precedes the fact that it's a COMMISSION ONLY job. They did mention an option of $40K base and $65K at quota, but my guess is this is bait and switch. I originally agreed with them that commission only made sense, because they do offer aggressive commissions, and from other reviews of current employees, they do appear to be a collaborative group, and have effective marketing campaigns. But after reading the reviews online and discussing the opportunity with 2 respected sources, I confirmed that most sales reps with good experience typically work off of at least a small base or at minimum a non-recoverable draw for the first few months until you build a pipeline. This means both employee and employer are making reasonable commitments up front. I have no problems with a company offering commission only, but the way it was handled seemed misleading. Furthermore, one of their main marketing points is "30 offices" across the US - they have feet on the streets. The 30 offices on their site (with street addresses), are all virtual. Currently Tom said they have 10 sales reps across the US, and all of their consultants are sub-contractors. On my 3rd call, Tom offered me the commission only job, and the offer was made without a face-to-face meeting. By this time I'd done research on Glassdoor and LinkedIn and had reservations about the whole situation. So I asked if a 3 month non-recoverable draw (then straight commission) was an option, he said “short answer, no”. Then I asked if the base plus commission we originally discussed was still on the table. He said he'd call back the next day after speaking with Antoinette. I was not surprised when he never responded...

I interviewed with 3 people over the course of 2 weeks. The most challenging interview was the second interview with the CEO. She asked very thought provoking questions which required me to think in a way that no other interview has done before. The last interview was with the Vice President of Sales
