Stay AWAY, the most disrespectful experience of my entire career and the interview process was a complete disaster!
I applied for two roles at equinix, CSM III in the UK and CSM Global Accounts in Spain. Got a call from the recruiter saying they wanted to interview me for a role in the UK, first a virtual interview where I should record a video of myself answering some questions. Got an email with the details for this virtual interview but the email was saying about the role in Spain. After I recorded my answers, got the confirmation email mentioning the role in the UK, so a bit confusing. After some days I received an email saying I was not being considered for the role in Spain.
I was interviewed for the role in the UK by the hiring manager and another person from the team, interview was good and they were clearly happy with my background, HM said I was moving forward to the next stage, which should be with the HM again and the "counterpart in Germany".
After some days I received an email saying I was not being considered for the role, which I found that strange since the interview went pretty well so I decided to go to Equinix workday page to check the status and - surprise! - there was a third application which I never did!
Because of the previous mess I thought that email was actually referring to that mysterious third application (important to mention, the automated emails they send did not say what role it was referring to, no job ID, nothing) and indeed in a few days I got an email giving the instructions to my next interview, which I should answer some questions they sent me by email. When the recruiter sent me the confirmation, he mistakenly sent me the email that was meant to be sent to another candidate.
This next interview was quick and the "counterpart in Germany" was not there, no explanation. Same two people of the previous interview plus one more person from the same team in the UK. To be honest, that interview easily could be part of the previous one, no need to wait 3 weeks.
That went well too and after two weeks I got a call from the recruiter to give me the final answer, now, pay attention, because this is getting really bad. They have three tiers of CSM, that process was for tier III, the most senior one, perfectly compatible with my experience and background. The recruiter told me he had bad news but good news as well: they had two opened tier III roles and wanted to hire one person internally and one externally BUT, after almost three months of long and messy interviews, they decided to hire only internally, BUT, now there was the tier II role available that pays 30% less, BUT, he said they have the policy of hiring internally so they needed 1-2 weeks to see if anyone was interested internally before moving forward with me. Great news, right? Can you imagine how discouraging is to receive such news? I said I needed to think about it and was waiting for another final answer to come that week.
In the following week I still did not have the answer from the other company so I decided to call the recruiter and say I was interested since I didn't want to stay without a job for too long and for my surprise he said that it might have been a bit too late. When I questioned about the 1-2 week he said they needed to see if any internal candidate was interested he quickly changed subject, said the hiring manager interviewed someone else she liked and was about to make the offer and said "business cannot wait for individuals to make decisions", well, apparently they can LIE to you saying they will hire an external candidate, make you wait almost three months in a disorganised and inefficient interview process and treat you in the most disrespectful manner by abruptly changing their decision.
If you interview someone for almost three months for a senior role and are about to suggest instead that this person could take an inferior role that pays 30% less, the DECENT thing to do is to apologise and offer that right away as a gesture of good will for compensating the damage and not put more conditions to it.
There is one more thing: this recruiter was extremely verbose, a call that should have taken 2 minutes took 10 because he explains everything 5 times.
I was disrespected before by other companies and recruiters but Equinix took that to the next level, that interview process was a complete disaster.
