As other reviewers noted, the reading comprehension test included challenging passages on scientific topics related to the pharmaceutical industry; and like other reviewers, I was also worried that they were simply data farming/phishing, since this job has nothing to do with the pharmaceutical industry, and because I was auto-rejected after completing it. I actually thought maybe it was a scam account posing as EP. I also agree with the previous reviewer that having an assessment so far removed from the job and industry WE ALL applied for, yet so intensive (especially for ALL APPLICANTS, none of whom would likely have a background in pharmaceutical technology.. because why would we ALL, not just specific to my personal situation, have that when applying for an immigration law position?), shows a lack of respect to ALL applicants.

      Questions d'entretien [1]

      Question 1

This question is asked to every candidate, so not specific to my personal situation at all, and therefore is on-topic and meaningful to a person who is seeking to understand what it is like to interview at this company. Glassdoor also literally asks for questions here: Overcoming drug resistance is a major challenge in cancer treatment. In particular, efflux-mediated drug resistance allows cancer cells to transport a wide variety of drugs out of cells, resulting in suboptimal intracellular drug concentrations. To counter this predicament, cutting-edge research is focused on nanotechnology-enabled drug delivery systems aimed at increasing drug concentrations. Thanks to their small size, nanoparticles exhibit disproportionately large surface areas, allowing them to be functionalized with other molecules. Nanoparticles modified with ligands like peptides, aptamers, or other small molecules selectively bind to overexpressed receptors on cancer cell membranes. This action is governed by the principles of molecular recognition. Proteins are even more efficient at targeting key receptors. Unfortunately, successful functionalization depends heavily on the stability and structural integrity of the ligand, so researchers are currently focused on other small molecules. Once functionalized, nanoparticles target cancer cells and release their encapsulated anti-cancer drugs in a controlled manner from within, circumventing efflux pumps. Functionalized nanoparticles can also be engineered to release drugs within specific tumor regions, resulting in hyper localized treatment. However, intratumoral transport of nanoparticles is hindered by inadequate blood supply and elevated interstitial fluid pressure within the tumor. The pursuit of nanotechnology-enabled drug delivery systems remains significant in the field of oncology. Nanoparticles can also be functionalized with imaging agents, such as fluorescent dyes, to improve the sensitivity and specificity of biomedical imaging. How does this process relate to the process described previously?

To clear up any confusion, this response is related to the reading comprehension assessment we do for all candidates for our High-Skilled Immigration Case Manager/Writer position. In this assessment, we ask questions related to a paragraph about a scientific topic (nanotechnology-enabled drug delivery systems treating cancer). The purpose of this assessment is to assess the candidate's ability to read and comprehend some key points in the scientific information. This skill is required so we can best serve our clients with their immigration needs (many of our clients work in STEM and each case we prepare is tailored to the individual client's situation). I hope this clarifies why we chose a scientific topic for the reading comprehension assessment, and I can assure you that we are in no way data farming/phishing, but rather recruiting at a high volume (8-10 hires/month) to support a rapidly growing Immigration law firm.

There is a five-step process to their screening. The first of which is a grammar and reading comprehension test. I saw reviews that this was a hard test, and indeed it was. They will give multiple answers that are correct, but you need to choose which answer is correct within that context. I got notification that I did not pass the first test. This was surprising, because I passed both NALA certification exams on my first attempt, and those are not easy! I'm also an online instructor of Effective Communications courses. Normally, I analyze content pretty easily, and can also apply it to various situations. They don't tell you which questions you got wrong - it's just a pass or fail. I'm wondering why they are being so particular when the salary is fairly humble.

Shortly after applying, I received a test assessing proofreading and reading comprehension skills. The reading comprehension test featured scientific, pharmaceutical industry-related text and was fairly intense. Within 72 hours, I received another email saying my application would not move forward due to my performance on this assessment. Fair enough. However, I am posting this here because the job was reposted on LinkedIn - with 38 applications already received - at approximately the same time I received the rejection email. The rejection referenced a "volume of applications" preventing them from providing further feedback. I didn't make note of how many were received when I first applied but think that either Ellis Porter is not receiving value from LinkedIn or is gathering and hoarding applicant data.

Thank you for your feedback. To add some context to this review, we do occasionally re-post the role to ensure that it remains visible to job seekers, as we are growing rapidly and hiring on average 6 Case Managers/Writers per month to support the growth of our firm. We do receive a high-volume of applicants via LinkedIN, Indeed, ZipRecruiter, Glassdoor, and various individual University job sites we post. Given the fairly open job requirements (we're open to a wide range of backgrounds and experience), we get a considerable amount of applicant volume. To also clear up any concerns on what we do with applicant data, we are not in any way using applicant data for anything outside of the hiring/selection process.
