Started with aptitude tests that would be appropriate for a resent immigrant - testing for clerical and grammatical accuracy, not technical accounting competence. It was demeaning but I did not dwell on it. Then I met the owner (Kurken). His office was moderate in size but held an oversized desk that left little room for the individuals he was meeting with - my legs were cramped, making meeting with him uncomfortable. This was apparently intentional as he seems to want to keep staff on edge. He was outwardly polite but it was also very apparent he had an overbearing personality; you'd have no success trying to convince him of a conclusion he had arrived at on his own. I applied because the office was close to home, despite having seen a new help wanted ad for a Controller about once every year for the previous few years. Lots of turnover here, and I got a feeling from the staff that they were not commmfortable. I seemed to convince him of my ability and we moved on to salary negotiation but could not come to terms. I could see this was not going to be a nice place to work and I'm done accepting jobs that make me miserable unless there's a lot of money involved.
