The interview consists of a pair programming session doing some TDD using IntelliJ.
When I got there I was scheduled to do my interview with one person. That person did not do the interview that I was scheduled with. I saw his badge when I walked in so I know the person was at the location but was working with someone at the time. I felt like I was intruding on the people working and the team was not very welcoming. I was not introduced to any managers or any other people on the floor.
When the pairing session started, the person conducting the interview did not even explain what problem we were trying to solve. He said they just code without even talking about the problem. This contradicts what I have learned about interviewing with companies like Amazon and Wholefoods. I have done whiteboard interviews with other companies and the first thing we do is talk through the problem to break down the task and explain what we are going to do. When I tried to do that the interviewer cut me off and said we don't explain problems we just code. The pairing session started and the person conducting the interview was always the driver. He never turned over control so we can alternate like in real pair programming. He finished everything and I never really had a chance to drive and lead the discussion.
His instructions were very poor and he completed the task all on his own without actually giving me a chance to contribute. At the end of the 45-minute session, he just rushed me out the door like he had to get back to his work.

Question 1
did not ask much since he really did not have a clear explanation of the problem and what the task at hand was.
Hopped onto call for the initial technical screen . Asked to Implement Set without built in functions and the interviewer is very helpful and friendly through out. Interview went alright although i was helped at one point. Finally they informed me they went in a different direction.

It was all about project architecture and solution design, they tested the programming skill by solving a problem in their office sitting with their one of the employee. It was pair programming, though i was new, it was OK to do such things as a process.
