      J'ai passé un entretien chez Cengage

      Disorganized to say the least. The interview process is unnecessarily long-does Cengage realize how much money their recruiting process is causing the company? When it started out I asked the recruiter what the interview process was, like every normal candidate does he said “interview with team members, interview with director, in person interview”. It turned into video interview after video interview with NO explanation from those I was interviewing with as to why I was interviewing with them or from. It was like I was being shuffled around to give them time to figure out what they wanted to do. I even had and interview with someone who used to work on the team (not sure what the point of interviewing with her was) who started off the interview by saying “I really don’t have much for you” and ended the interview by telling me “the girl they were hurting for this position would be in Clifton Park” (Freudian slip)? At this point I dedicated nearly 5 weeks (5 lunch breaks in my car doing zoom interviews) to this company. When I finally reached out to the recruiter for a potential time line (like when do the video interviews ever end) I was given very vague answers. He actually told me to reach out to the coordinator for potential direction. I suggest anyone applying with this company to think twice. Their interview process is not standard or conducive for those who are employed. The process length doesn’t make sense for the pay range and the recruiter did not even know his own process. You need a lot of extra time which is difficult if you are currently employed. In the end they went with a candidate that left the company but reapplied-the company didn’t want to train someone and have a lengthy on-boarding process yet emphasized how they go anywhere to find talent. I was told throughout the process that all my feedback looked great and was positive. This was after my 4th interview. Would have liked to known this prior to partaking in the 5th interview!

From time to time we realize that the commitment can be significant- especially for those who have made it as deep in the process as your appear to have. Zoom interviews are intended to help accelerate the timeline and minimize the candidate's total time commitment- while realizing they are not always as meaningful as in person connections.
