I was referred to Carshop via a recruiter who handled communication and informed me based on my CV that they were interested in talking to me, but I would need to complete a test first - OK, fair enough, seems to be normal in development these days.
The test was straightforward enough but what they were asking for was more or less a fully working landing page with full search results pulling from their API. They wanted to see stylistic flair and a comprehensive working environment, but this is a rather large undertaking and it's a bit silly to ask someone to do so much work before they've even had a chance to talk on the phone.
Regardless, I sunk a weekend into the test and got it working to their specification and was offered a telephone interview.
The interview lasted no longer than 5 minutes, with the technical lead cutting me off mid-flow of explanation informing me that they were quite busy and had more candidates that they needed to talk to. Excuse me!? How unprofessional!?
I was absolutely fuming having spent this time on the test only to be dismissed after 5 minutes. Total waste of my time. Had they called back to chat to me further I would have politely declined.
