J'ai postulé en ligne. J'ai passé un entretien chez Capco (Toronto, ON) en juil. 2020

      Entretien

It started as any, I introduced myself and explained my experience and what I've done in the past. Then we go into the technical portion. To my surprise, we started coding in a Google Doc. I was immediately thrown off by this because it shows an utter lack of preparation for interviewing a candidate. A simple Google search of "code together online" would return more than enough results. But coding in a Google Doc is essentially the equivalent of coding on a napkin. I know we're trying to do the best we can in the year 2020, but there is no excuse for this. I've interviewed developers before. And I've done it more than enough times to know that you don't test candidates on how much javascript you can memorize but how well you can solve a problem. You present them with an actual real-world problem. Then you judge them on how they approach the problem and how they communicate what they're thinking. I was asked to implement a promise-pattern in javascript from scratch. No debugger, no console log, no code hinting, no tabbing. Instead, I got auto-capitalization and spellcheck. It was way too distracting to even focus on the question, which was hard enough. Every time I voiced my displeasure with the situation, he told me, "don't worry about it, man". On this occasion, the interviewer was alone. I feel that if another person were there to go through the interview process, they would've noticed that the questions are ridiculous, and the tools they are using are absurd. They needed someone else there to vet this interviewer. In the end, I knew I was going to get the job, so I ended the interview early. I would not recommend Capco.

Thank you for the feedback. Capco is always looking to improve our interviewing processes to create an even better experience for our interviewees. We’re sorry to hear that you did not enjoy the Google Docs portion of the interview. Given our collaborative and entrepreneurial culture, we see Google Docs as a good tool, among the range we deploy, to assess the capabilities of candidates. We also have a number of other collaboration and skill testing tools that help us engage, interact and evaluate our technical candidates. On this occasion, our process indicated that Capco is not the right organization for you to pursue your career. Nevertheless, thank you for your interest in the firm and for providing your feedback. We wish you every success in your future career.
