I'm not sure which recruiters all these reviewers were dealing with, but the one I had was great with the communication and scheduling. In my rejection email after the final round, he even automatically provided me detailed feedback from the engineering team without me having to ask. A rarity from recruiters! So my experience was very similar to the others, especially the recent Senior Backend Engineer review. First round was with an engineer through GitHub Codespaces. This was an existing codebase where you just had to complete a few requirements/tasks, fix some bugs, and fix some tests. Was very easy and straightforward. Second round was with the hiring manager. We basically just went over my resume and discussed some of the projects he and his team working on. Super easy, but I did ask him a bunch of questions that left me a little perplexed. His answers to questions about how they architect projects, what best practices they embrace, how they do testing, etc, seemed to be lacking. I'm not sure if it was just this individual team, or if it was company wide, but they don't seem to know standard stuff that would make their lives easier as a developer. I noticed this alluded to in one or two of the Bilt Rewards employee reviews, so take that as you will. Third and final round was with a director, I think a staff engineer, and the same HM from before. This was the systems design portion, so it's essentially just taking the live coding project and doing a high level design. There is no 15 minute social conversation in the beginning like the recruiter mentioned to me, you just jump straight into it. This is based on how they actually designed their core system, which appears to be a legacy system or oddly/poorly designed. But I'm not sure, so ask more questions than me if you're curious! Overall, I thought it was a fairly smooth and easy interview process. My only real complaint is in the final round the interviewers were constantly looking down at their phones, and when I finished the interview they didn't really say much or thank me for coming me in. Not a huge deal, but being professional and courteous towards someone who took the time off from work to come in is usually a polite and respectful way to be. The other observation made by reviewers, which I wholeheartedly agree with, is that his office space is ridiculously smaaaaaaaall. I've never seen a more cramped office space.

Went through the interview process in June 2025. Couple of rounds, including AI assisted coding round, followed by Project Deep Dive and System Design. I could not get through the System Design round. It wasn't super difficult

Just finished the interview for Senior Backend Engineer here. I think I have better experience than most of the people here. First round was online coding to fix some tests, it's pretty easy and straightforward, they guy I had interview with was friendly and easygoing. I found a bug in the test though, maybe that's a bonus point for me. Second round was behavior questions/ past projects deep dive. This round was fairly easy too, I think the point is to show them the tech stack you had used and some "Tell me about a time when......" type questions. Last round was onsite System Design interview. It was to design a system that can load the file from the bank and do some process (points calculation, send notification to users, write to database.....etc). Basically just like those batch systems in the bank which runs every night. This round was ok, but I felt the interviewers were not really familiar with the question because they had to check the computer multiple times. They complained more than once why they need to put some weird constraints/requirements for this system. I think they can only ask candidates to design this system, maybe they have to follow some policies or they don't know how to design other types of systems. Overall, I think the interview process was okay, recruiter was responsive although he forgot to send me invitation for second round and disappeared after the last round. That's ok with me because I think the problem is they just don't have enough HR to handle all the applicants. They are just a startup so everything is still not there 100%. Can't really blame them for that. They still need a lot of work to do in order to improve the whole process. Last thing is their office, I was really curious about their office after reading all the comments here. It is true, oh boy that was the smallest office I've ever seen, with only one super slow elevator (the elevator on Titanic was probably faster than this). The office is like 6 train during rush hour and local gym at 5pm. It's packed, crowded and chaotic. I even saw one person sitting in front of the elevator because there were no seats in the office (I like it though, very NYC homeless style). They mentioned they are converting the first floor to a coffee shop, I was like girl you need more desks and chairs, not coffee tables. It's just sad that all these people have to work in this environment. I really wish them to have a bigger office soon.
