J'ai postulé en ligne. J'ai passé un entretien chez Axon en sept. 2020

      Entretien

The process was - Online Application-->Recruiter Interview--> Stakeholder Interview I applied online and heard from the recruiter. The recruiter was warm and friendly. She did provide me with information about who the HM is and what is he is looking for. I was very excited about interviewing with Axon for this role and was hoping the conversation would focus on projects and learnings from my previous experiences and how those learnings can be transferred to the role at Axon. Unfortunately, NOT one question was asked about my projects, results, or learnings from previous experiences. Instead, the questions focused on - Asking for an explanation for each of my job changes. This is a fair question and I did answer the interviewer. But it’s also 2020, people change jobs just the like this interviewer had five 1-year stints in his 9-year long career. I was also surprised he led with this question and continued probing further moving on to more recent ones rather ask me about learnings, projects, or the impact that I was able to create. Opportunities and challenges do you think our business unit has? This is a great question. I usually research thoroughly before my interviews about the products, solutions, and industry to be able to answer similar questions. For a widely adopted consumer product, this is a fair question. However for a niche category like “Public Safety” there isn’t a lot of information available publicly. It was even harder because the specific business I was interviewing for literally has one page of information on Axon’s website with not much to tell the reader. Which is the most relevant of all your jobs to Axon? Yes, the interviewer asked “job” not project. I answered his question. However, his tone was more like “defend why am I spending my time talking to you” rather than genuinely wanting to learn how the experience would be translated to the role. Throughout the conversation, I sensed all the questions were directed at me with condescension rather than interest to learn more about my experiences. I could see his disinterest piercing through the Zoom call while I was talking. Most importantly, at a time when COVID19 has led to all-time high unemployment, I sensed an acute lack of empathy throughout the conversation. I genuinely feel aligned with Axon’s mission and values and was very excited about the interview. Sadly the interview left me feeling uneasy. Let's just assume that I was the most undeserving candidate in their pool and maybe the most boring narrator on earth but if you have chosen to speak to me, I should not have to defend why you are spending your time talking to me. You already have my resume and the access to the option to not start the process at all. The experience left me questioning the culture and values at Axon while sensing the arrogance of an "all boys club". The interview was so unpleasant that I withdrew my interest in the role after the conversation. With a 33% percent negative experience rating and evidence from my own experience, I think the HR team has a lot of training to do internally.
