Interesting process, submitted an application on line and some days later received an email from
HR department out of state, usually a giant red flag . Connecting with the recruiter was difficult to say the least, I would get an email confirming a date, the date would come and go? I would email again.... took a couple of weeks to speak over the phone, very general questions were asked, the recruiter discussed pay and benefits, I expressed interest.
The recruiter let me know they would let me know if there was an interest moving forward and the actual branch made the final decision. Much talk about the culture being very different from traditional car sales.
After about a week I sent an email following up, I was then scheduled to head into the actual branch.
The lot was packed, not a single parking spot to be found, cars were literally shoved in every corner possible. Not customers, just inventory. I parked on the street and hiked back in, scooting and wiggling through the inventory to get into the building. The building itself was run down, sterile and very uninviting.
Manager met with me and began a long dissertation about his extensive qualifications and further more was in demand everywhere by everyone. I listened and listened and listened some more. Not to much was asked about me, my education previous experience or the actual job.
I did my best to chat a bit about myself, and asked about the actual job, getting in a word was like pulling teeth.
The manager then asked me about the pay discussed with the recruiter, I gave the gist with out discussing the figures, manager seemed beyond surprised.
Apparently the great culture discussed by the recruiter was not shared with this highly sought after manager.
To add insult to injury said manager stated he was not involved in hiring process and really had no clue what to expect moving forward. Odd ? Maybe didn’t like me? Maybe I didn’t listen correctly ? Huge disconnect between a far away head quarters and a little car lot far far and away.
I reached back out to the recruiter and was totally ghosted not even so much as a “no thanks” email.
