      Entretien

TL;DR: Nice people, broken interview process. I have nothing but good things to say about everyone that interviewed me. Very nice and talented people. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about their interview process. It started off very standard: initial screening via Zoom, followed by initial coding interview. Next is where things took a turn for the worse. I received a take-home test where I had to implement an API using GraphQL and NestJS to support various CRUD operations with a suggested time of 6 hours. If you've never worked with these technologies, I highly doubt you will be able to complete it within the suggested time, but one of the goals of the assessment was to see how you can ramp up in new tech. I easily spent over 14 hours learning these technologies and completing this project. I completed it to the best of my knowledge and felt like I did an okay job. Obviously, there's always room for improvement and I would've gladly done so, but mind you, they suggested a mere 6 hours to complete something with tools I'd never worked with before. After pouring that unnecessary amount of time to the project, I had a follow up deep dive interview where we discussed the project. I received some pretty good feedback and am very grateful for that as it helped me learn and grow. Unfortunately, after this assessment I got a follow up rejection email stating that there is a technical gap with my coding style and they're not in a position to set me up for success, which was a major bummer as I was very excited about potentially joining the team and contributing towards their goal. After this assessment, there was final rounds of interviews left where they would test my technical knowledge once more, as if I hadn't already completed fairly deep assessments. Uber point here is that the take-home test was very extra, and I personally don't feel the need for it as there are different, more efficient, ways of testing an individual's technical knowledge. If you get the opportunity to interview with them, I'd say go for it as you will meet very talented and interesting people, but keep in mind that they will ask you to spend an unnecessary amount of time in a project that could potentially lead to your rejection. A company that doesn't value your time as a candidate cannot be expected to value your time as an employee. As another recruiter shared with me, sometimes rejection equals protection.

First thing to say is thank you for the feedback. We know it takes courage to put your thoughts on an interview process back to the company you interviewed with in the first place. Although you did not secure the role, you did engage with our approach, and we thank you for this investment of your time. We use this approach for the express purpose of making sure we hire right over expediency, as every role is critical to a startup at our stage in its lifecycle. Our hope is that you see why we are being deliberate as a result. However, you have made a couple of recommendations that do warrant our attention in terms of improvement to our hiring process. We will be discussing ways we can update our approach to incorporate your feedback. Please know that we will continue with the rigor we apply to maintain our standards with respect to our culture, a candidate's capacity to master, while leveraging capabilities we need them to have in support of our combined success in delivering on the vision.
