The initial telephone interview was very pleasant with the internal recruiter whom I built a good rapport with. The phone interview with the hiring manager didn't happen until 10 days later. The lady on the other side of the phone was very difficult to talk to, but of course, as a potential employee, this would be overlooked. Overall, the phone call was extremely awkward and I felt that it didn't go too well. The requirements for the role were not made clear but apparently, the call went okay, and I was invited in for an SQL test.
On the phone, I had said that my SQL knowledge was very basic and I made this clear. On the day of the test, the same lady was there and she was a recent graduate. Interpersonal skills were very limited and she couldn't communicate clearly or confidently. I had revised for 5 consecutive days prior to this "test" and made it extremely clear. She seemed to not care that this showed commitment, interest, motivation and good learning capabilities. She didn't ask any questions and focused solely on the SQL test, which to me was disappointing.
I was told to expect an answer by the end of the week - I "interviewed" on a Wednesday.
After 3 and a half weeks and 3 emails chasing for an update, they responded straight after my third email saying that I was unsuccessful. The lack of courtesy to update potential candidates, the lack of professionalism and the awkwardness of the person who was hiring were extremely frustrating.
