Waited some time before meeting the engineering director who did not seem prepared. After reading my resume in front of me, he seemed skeptical that I was a good fit, based purely on my work history of designing automation. I felt very well qualified but got a weird vibe. He was very proud that his engineers work long hours not because they have to, but because they want to. It made me uncomfortable. I was supposed to meet another member of management but he double booked himself and did not have time for me. So I met 3 Chief Engineers who seemed nice, but also emphasized how hard the job is but that they liked the challenge. That’s all fine, but they didn’t sell the job itself. They just made it seem like it did not offer a healthy work-life balance.
Finally I met with HR, for a dozen unexpected behavioral hypothetical questions. By the end I needed a drink.
After receiving notice from the recruiter that they felt my qualifications weren’t up to their expectations, I got an email from that same manager who was a no-show for my interview. He asked me if I’d like to come in for an interview. Not a good sign of their level of organization.
